What's "Carbon Neutral" ? #1 --No Time To DIE, if you will go for zero emissions society.

In October of last year, Prime Minister SUGA made a speech about carbon neutrality, and the Japanese people started to pay attention to it. Let's talk about carbon neutrality this time.

What does it mean to be carbon neutral?

First of all, you should think of it as meaning a society that does not use fossil fuels (a decarbonised society). That's all you need to understand.

Is this something an eco-conscious person would do? Is it hypocritical? Is it something for conscious people to take part in?

Koge-chang is a stuffed animal, but I am unconscious.
"I don't eat meat. It's crazy. Your farts are worse than a cow's burp!" I say.

The Japanese call people who talk about environmental and social issues "conscious". The Japanese don't just use the term "conscious" to praise people.
It is also used to describe people who are hypocritical or heretical. It is similar to the word "heathen".

Japanese people feel embarrassed to talk about environmental and social issues. This is because it is part of Japanese culture, customs and atmosphere.

Why does it have to be carbon neutral? -This is a difficult question.

In terms of the SDGs, there are two possible reasons
1. To prevent global warming (CO2 reduction).

2. Because coal and oil will eventually be exhausted.

*The above are two of the goals of the SDGs." Preventing Global Warming" and "Renewable Energy".

We cannot go ahead with the strategy of "no more thermal power, more nuclear power". Because
We may be able to prevent global warming, but we will run out of uranium.

What is neutral in carbon neutral?
Is it different from non-carbon or carbon free?

Non-alcoholic (contains no alcohol) → Non-carbon (contains no carbon)

Drink free (contains no alcohol) and gluten free → Carbon free (emits no CO2)

Neutral means something like "neither".

It is important to understand that neutral = just zero (the sum of the amount of Co2 emitted by society and the amount of Co2 inhaled).

"Neutral" means that thermal power can emit as much CO2 as  mountains can absorb in Japan

If you want to look like you know a lot about carbon neutrality, the above story is very important

Let's fill Japan with ”Euglena” and drink up all the CO2 emitted by Japanese society.

Such a strategy may work, or it may not.

In some forested countries, more CO2 is inhaled than emitted.

In such countries, the right to emit CO2 (emission rights) can be bought with a wad of cash.

There is also a futures market for emission rights.

Hmmmmm. It's too complicated for me to follow.

But gamblers like to bet on everything, don't they?

Mukyu, pyoonka! Is there any more to this story? Is there more? Let's get out of here! Pyunka!
